After stopping off at an open house around the corner from my own home I felt that I had to address the issue of house color. The home in question is a very well kept rambler on a nice little lot in a good neighborhood. The home was well staged, the yard fresh cut and landscaped and the house had a very well done fresh coat of paint. It’s the fresh paint that got me wandering how long it will take to sell and glad that it’s not my listing. Now house color is a matter of taste. Just as the choice in cars is a matter in taste. Everyone loves their choices and see nothing wrong their “taste” no matter how badly the majority of the population thinks of your choice. The GM Pacer is a great example. Those who had them loved them, the rest of us just laughed as they drove by. The result was very low numbers of sells and the discontinuation of the line. It did not appeal to the majority of the buying public. So the very nice pink house around the corner from my own home is going to have a very hard time selling. Pink is a color that people who love it love it completely, few in number‘s that they are. So if you have to repaint a house for sell, as this one just was, why not pick a color that the majority of the population find acceptable? You are not repainting for your own uses.  You are repainting the house to make it more appealing to the majority of buyers. Very few people want a pink house. So now the majority of the buyers looking at the fore mentioned home will have to think about having the freshly painted home repainted. The owners have not only spent thousands of their own money but have now added thousand to the purchase  price for any buyer’s that are looking at the home. The whole purpose of cleaning up your home is to get it sold and make it more appealing to the majority of buyer’s not add to the cost of purchase. Home’s in neutral colors are easier to sell and a majority of home owners are not only attracted to them but more willing to put up with the color until it can be painted to their “taste”. So if you are selling your house don’t think about your taste, but the taste of the majority of the buyer’s because they are becoming fewer and fewer.
